The Journal
of Articles submitted to the JIA which arise from postgraduate research will be considered for the JIA postgraduate prize. This was established in 2005 to encourage contributions from postgraduate students and those recently finished postgraduate degrees. The following rules apply:
The award will be for an article based on research for a degree in archaeology at any university or institute of high education which complies with the editorial policy of the JIA as outlined in Notes for Contributors.
The essay must have been submitted to the editor less than three years after the award of the degree for which the research was undertaken.
The decision as to whether an article is worthy of the prize will be taken by the editor in consultation with the Editorial Board and any academic referee(s) the editor may see fit to consult.
At most one prize is awarded each year and in some years it is withheld. Publication of a paper arising from postgraduate work in the JIA does not guarantee receipt of the prize.
Entrants for the prize should follow the same procedures as other scholars submitting papers to the JIA as outlined in Notes for Contributors.
The decision of the editor and the Editorial Board will be final and not subject to appeal.
The prize is kindly sponsored by Margaret Gowen and Co. Ltd and the amount of the award is €500.
